SONY DSCI have several small updates, all of which can be lumped under the theme of “always keep many irons in the fire.”

First, dating. Let me start by saying Houston, we have found a lover. Actually, two. This is an embarrassment of riches for a guy who just went nearly six months sexless — four of those by choice. I updated and re-upped my OkCupid profile; after my recent experience where an attempt at “serious dating” led to a temptation to drink, I altered my profile (you can see me here, if interested) to indicate that I’m not really looking for anything serious. I tried to indicate that I’m looking for a play partner more than a “girlfriend” — without quite going the “hey, DTF?” route.

I have had a few people suggest that, given my current situation, I’d be more successful on a site like Adult FriendFinder or Fetlife (nb: I have profiles on each, but I won’t link them here). However, AFF is very much a “meat market” and seems to be home to some very, very damaged individuals. And Fetlife… well Fetlife is less psychologically damaging, but I still have a hard time thinking of myself as “kinky.”

Besides, I’ve now met not one but two potential medium/long-term lovers. This will help — I won’t go insane from lack of a woman’s touch/company while I’m waiting to be “ready” for something more serious. Given that I’m a fairly decent lover (or so I’m told), and that I’m good company (I like to think), the women get something out of it, too 🙂

On the hobbies front, I’ve become quite excited about using my serger to create/alter fabric pieces. It creates really amazing stitchwork, and I’m looking forward to it.

Additionally, my flux core wire feed welder arrived. Now that I’ve worked on the tools at Rusty Oliver’s workshop, I’ll admit I’m a bit spoiled — my little cheapo rig without shielding gas or adjustable voltage/wire feed rate seems a little rudimentary. But it’ll work for small projects, and come on — melting metal is cool

Finally on the craft front, I have an Arduino Uno R3 and a Raspberry PI B+ on the way. Time to learn electronics!

Last but not least, I’ve decided to cautiously dip my foot back in the employment pool. I’m not actively “looking” for work — I’m gainfully employed, and I love working from home. But I’m being paid on the (very) low end of what I’m worth and it wouldn’t hurt to feel a bit more financially secure…

So… always keep many irons in the fire!
